1959 ALLIS CHALMERS HYDROGEN POWERED TRACTOR BASED ON A HIGHLY MODIFIED D12

Allis Chalmers Fuel Cell Powered Tractor, 1959
Developed and demonstrated in 1959, this tractor was the first fuel cell powered vehicle in the world. Powered by an alkaline fuel cell system (at the time the largest fuel cell system in the world), in October 1959 it successfully plowed a field of alfalfa in West Allis, Wisconsin, USA. After the demonstration, the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company donated the tractor to the Smithsonian. Source Smithsonian Institution Copyright Smithsonian Institution
